THE CLIENT

EZTip is a Web3 application designed for artists, streamers, and influencers who want to receive donations directly from their audience without intermediaries. By utilizing Ethereum-based smart contracts, EZTip ensures that every transaction is immutable, trustless, and secure, allowing creators to fully control their earnings.

The problem

Traditional online tipping platforms come with significant drawbacks

  1. High transaction fees that reduce creators’ earnings.
  2. Reliance on third-party services that may impose restrictions or censorship.
  3. Security and privacy concerns for both creators and donors.
  4. Limited payment options, especially for international transactions.

EZTip was developed to address these challenges by offering a decentralized tipping system that eliminates middlemen, reduces fees, and provides transparent transaction records.

The process

Research and Discovery

We began by analyzing existing donation platforms such as Patreon, Ko-fi, and Buy Me a Coffee. Additionally, we explored blockchain-based alternatives to identify key advantages and areas for improvement.

USER INSIGHTS & PAIN POINTS

We conducted interviews with streamers, digital artists, and influencers to understand their frustrations with current tipping solutions. Key pain points included:

 

  1. Excessive platform fees reducing earnings.
  2. Delayed access to funds.
  3. Lack of privacy and transparency in transactions.
  4. Limited payment methods available for international supporters.

IDEATION & DEVELOPMENT

Using our research findings, we designed a solution that includes:

 

  1. Wallet-based authentication using MetaMask, CoinBase and WalletConnect.
  2. Smart contract-powered transactions for security and transparency.
  3. A simple and intuitive interface optimized for creators and donors.
  4. A streamlined frontend built with Next.js for scalability and performance.

No backend, fully decentralized

EZTip was built without a traditional backend, operating entirely on the frontend and leveraging smart contracts to handle all platform functionality. This ensures a truly decentralized experience, eliminating the need for centralized servers or intermediaries.

 

To maintain consistency across contract deployments, we implemented a deterministic contract address mechanism. This means that no matter which blockchain EZTip is deployed on, the contract address will always remain the same.

 

Additionally, we initially chose to deploy EZTip on the Base network due to its low transaction fees, allowing creators to receive donations without excessive costs. However, we plan to expand to other blockchains in the future to increase accessibility and adoption.
